Do you have a kit and wonder what you would do

if an emergency hit and you didn't have it on you?

Are you the person everyone looks to for support

and you and you are trying to build a communal approach to emergency preparedness and response?

Are you trying to introduce emergency preparedness

to your community?

You are a changemaker because you want to do things differently.

You could

buy an emergency kit, make a plan and check it off your to-do list,

but that's not you.

You know that part of building just, sustainable futures is not doing things like we always have,

which includes changing how we do emergency preparedness

to make it inclusive, collective, and address the oppressive systems that got us in this situation.

That's why I teach emergency preparedness differently!

THIS WORKSHOP IS FOR YOU IF:

  • Want to learn how to BUILD RELATIONSHIPS with community members in order to prepare a more collective and inclusive emergency plan.

  • You want to IMPLEMENT SKILLS to hold yourself through the hard times, and action even during overwhelm.

  • You want to know WHAT YOU CAN OFFER in an emergency, because you haven't seen examples of neurodiverse or people with disabilities helping in an emergency.

  • You get anxious when you think that you might be caught in an emergency  without your emergency kit.

  • AND YOU DON'T JUST WANT TO SURVIVE A DISASTER, you want to take collective action to address the policies that do nothing to prevent them, and build a world where the you, and the environment, can thrive.

I hope you never need to use your emergency kit and live through a disaster - but the current reality is that the climate emergency is  accelerating and we are all being affected one way or another.

I've made it through several disasters including a handful of earthquakes, a volcano, a flood, several landslides - without any emergency supplies on hand; worked a jobs where we often had to manage multiple crises a day; and, just like all of you, living through an ongoing global pandemic. And even though I always had an emergency kit, in none of these instances did it apply.

Knowing how you specifically can to respond to an emergency - even when your emergency kit is not handy - is so important because so many of us spend most of our days OUTSIDE of our homes and away from our emergency kits.

Being able to practice thinking creatively BEFORE an emergency is important because you might have prepared for all scenarios and face one that you hadn't yet thought of.

Being able to prepare creative solutions BEFORE an emergency is also important so that you can address potential challenges even if you don't have the finances for the ideal solution yet.

""I was a bit nervous about this workshop because emergency preparedness is stressful, and I worried I'd just find out how unprepared I really was. But Daniela's workshop was a game-changer! It showed me all the great resources I already have. Now, I can't wait to gather all my items as soon as I get home!"

"I think about emergency preparedness often but don't have a kit or a plan. I appreciated how you encouraged us to think about this as a group and not only as an individual. I am going to start having conversations with my neighbours about this so we can help each other out."

AT ITS CORE,

EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS IS CARE.

It is care for ourselves, others, and the planet.

Learning how to care is a practice we can start BEFORE an emergency, not just to navigate a disaster but also to address the systems that cause them, so that we can build thriving futures for ourselves, others, and the planet.
